The limestone cars from Escanaba arrive at the Empire Mine and are dropped off. Day shift, a private contracter unloads them with a backhoe on a elevated platform, that walks its way down the string of cars. Alot of cars get damaged in the process. After, a mine loader fills 170 ton haul trucks, that take it to another location where another loader feeds it into a feeder to the grinding mill, and then added to the concentrate. Alot of added cost, but record profits for Cleveland Cliffs.
