I see the Sherwin if it sails again, being as a Barge. The cost of converting her to a self unloader would be very high due to the fuel tank arrangement. As a barge, not an issue. If left steam she will need extensive boiler work and probably a lot of turbine work. As a barge, a non issue. As a ship she will need extensive hull work, if not a new bottom. As a barge, she doesn't require the same inspection requirements by the Coast Guard as a ship, hence, less hull work and cost. The other option is a diesel. With the cost of the diesel conversion on the Saginaw and the Lee A is it worth it?
