Could someone explain for a non-mariner the difference in the crew sizes of a tug-barge combo versus a lake boat. I tried the search function but either it isn't there or I couldn't find it. What I'm interested in is what jobs or positions have different requirements in each situation and what difference that makes in crew workload and watch-standing. Thanks in advance. If anyone cares to explain why the Coast Guard sees them differently, that information would be appreciated, too.
