The fines are the dust and fines (broken pellets) resulting in the handling of taconite pellets. This dust plugs the blast furnace. They screen the pellets and the fines are shipped to a steel mill with a sintering plant. Such as at USX Gary Plant and Indiana Harbor.

The news page and the Passage site reported they are going to load fines. What are fines? Why do they go from one steel mill to another?

Wilfred Sykes is currently abeam of Rogers City with her AIS showing a Nanticoke destination.
