The story of the wreck of the Pere Marquette 3 is also told in George Hilton's "Lake Michigan Passenger Steamers."

The ship sunk in the ice is Pere Marquette 3. She was caught in an ice jam outside Ludington on March 8, 1920. The pressure from a strong westerly wind caused the ice to crush the hull and she sank. The wrecker Favorite raised the hulk in July 1921, but she was too old and badly damaged to be worth rebuilding. Refer to "Great Lakes Ships We Remember III."
