The CG Sequoia arrived at their new home and station in Port Huron around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 7th. Was at the St. Clair River today and saw them upbound on their first ever trip up on the river! Saw them first coming up at Marine City where they gave an awesome salute and then later, I saw them in St. Clair and Marysville as well. Got them to give me and blow another salute as they were up at St. Clair today as well. Thanks to the captain and crew of the CG Sequoia for the great salutes today on the St. Clair River! Welcome to your new home Sequoia and cheers to many great, safe and happy years along with seasons here in the Great Lakes and Port Huron also. You and your crew will love and enjoy your new home here and the Great Lakes as well and make lots of brand new friends here. Welcome home CG Sequoia!

For anyone that is tracking and following the CG Sequoia, they departed Detroit just after 9 A.M. on September 7th and are currently upbound as I type this now at 10:30 am on September 7 in Lake St. Clair. They are about I would say mid-point give or take of Lake St. Clair based off of the AIS on both boatnerd and Marine Traffic. They are due with an ETA at Port Huron on September 7 at 1600 hours or 4 P.M. Eastern Time. Welcome to the Bluewater Country and Welcome to your new home CG Sequoia and may you have a safe and successful career serving the Great Lakes and now in your new home of Port Huron! May you have many good and safe sailing seasons ahead of you as you are now to embark on your new home and chapter in your career. Also, may you make lots of new friends as well while you are here CG Sequoia. Calm Seas and Fair Winds Sequoia and Welcome to your new home!

If I’m understanding it correctly, the Sequoia is due at the Ditch or the Welland Canal tomorrow September 5 in the morning around 7:30 a.m. give or take at Lock 1 and due at Lock 8 in the late afternoon between 4-5 p.m. give or take. All subject to change. I would think they’d be up on the Detroit and St. Clair Rivers on Friday, September 6th. Unfortunately I cannot go to the river that day as there is rain and storms in the forecast and I never go out to the river in rain or storms period! Like I said before, surely I would think someone will post photos of her here on the boatnerd site for all of us to see. Welcome then Sequoia and calm seas and fair winds as you make your journey to your new home in Port Huron. Can’t wait to someday see her on the St. Clair River and her new home in Port Huron!

Thanks Guest appreciate that information from you very much and great job my friend. They cleared the Eisenhower Lock in Massena, New York on September 3 today and unless they stop along the way, they should be headed to their new home in Port Huron next! Would guess then that they could be up on the St. Clair River on Thursday, September 5 or else on Friday, September 6 for Port Huron and their new home! Unfortunately I cannot be out at the river on Thursday, September 5 that day as I have an appointment then that I cannot cancel, postpone or re-schedule at this time. As far as Friday, September 6 goes, right now I’m seeing rain and lots of it in the forecast that day. Oh well, surely someone will post photos of the Sequoia I hope here on boatnerd for all of us to see and to enjoy. Hoping someday to see the Sequoia on the St. Clair River and their new home on the river in Port Huron as well!

CGC SEQUOIA (WLB 215) is the only cutter with that name. All of the other 225' WLB's have recycled names, most from previous buoy tenders. The older buoy tenders had a designation of WAGL. As the USCG standardized the cutter designation, most were changed to WLM, WLI, or WLB. Here's list of the 225' WLB's and what their predecessor's designation was.

The USCGC Sequoia WLB 215 just entered the Seaway just today, Monday, September 2, 2024. Their AIS shows them headed to Massena, New York. Eventually they will head to their new home of Port Huron. Interestingly they are 215 their pennant number or whatever it is referred to and called as, while the Hollyhock was 214! In doing a bit of searching on the Sequoia is this the only one with that name or have their been others? I’m not finding anything on any previous versions of a Sequoia in the USCG fleet for now. Will miss the Hollyhock but, glad I got to see them at least one final time last year before they left the lakes and Port Huron. Thank You to the captain and crew of the Hollyhock for all your years of service and while you were in Port Huron. Calm Seas, Fair Winds, Sunny Skies as you now embark on a new home and career and chapter in your life. Thanks Guest as I thought the Sequoia was supposed to be replacing the Hollyhock but I couldn’t remember and too I have not seen any news or information up until just now on them. Can’t wait to see the Sequoia someday and I wish the captain and crew aboard, safe travels and passage and calm seas, fair winds and sunny skies as you embark on your new home in Port Huron, Michigan. Welcome to your new home CG Sequoia. I assume they get their name then from the tall and the large Sequoia trees in California?

Yes, the Sequoia's home port is now listed as Port Huron. And the Hollyhock is scheduled to move to Honolulu once its refit/upgrade is completed at the Coast Guard shipyard in Curtis Bay (near Baltimore).

Noticed today on the Port of Montreal’s website, the CG Sequoia is expected to arrive in Montreal from Quebec City where it arrived on August 31. Is the Sequoia supposed to be replacing the CG Hollyhock that was once in Port Huron since late 2003? I have often been wondering whatever happened to the Hollyhock has I know she left the lakes in 2023 and then went to Baltimore or somewhere in Maryland and has yet to return to her home port in Port Huron, Michigan. Luckily and fortunately I got to see the Hollyhock once last year in late April 2023 on the St. Clair River before she left and departed for Maryland. I would very much appreciate any information, details, stats and everything on the Sequoia and also any news or information that you may have as well on the Hollyhock. If the Sequoia is to be the replacement for the Hollyhock, then I’m very much looking forward to seeing them someday in their new home of Port Huron, Michigan then. Thanks for any info then.
