That, or there could have been an issue aboard the vessel, if something like a thruster, main, or gen is giving a little grief they will make a loop to give the engineers a little more time to solve any issues. They don't like to pull into tight situations without having every navigational aid tip top. I have seen a boat in silver bay do 6 or 7 loops in front of the harbor.

Usually when this happens it means an emergency vehicle needed to cross to or from Minnesota Point. Typically the bridge will ask the approaching vessel if it's safe for them to abort their canal transit.

Does anyone know why the Cason J Callaway did a hard turn to port and then a full 360 just off the Duluth enterance this evening before finally going under the bridge? The Arial bridge was only half up at the time and then went back down during the Callaway's turn, wondering if there was a problem with the bridge or something else. I was watching from Leif Erickson park, so wasn't privy to what may have been said about it at Canal Park. Thanks!
