Yeah, that's pretty much how I remember it. The landscape matte painting in the background looks a little too hilly to be the upper St. Marys River. It appears to be good model, however, and the water looks very realistic with reflections for what products would have been available to the model maker during this period. Even today, creating an effective seascape can be a challenge.

I remember seeing a diorama as a child back in the 1960s of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan in which it has a model of a wooden ship being portaged through the town in the days before the locks were built. I would suppose the display is long gone (I cannot even remember where I saw it) but was wondering if by chance anyone know if it still exists or what happened to it. I have always been interested in models and this is one of my earliest memories of such a diorama.
