Per AIS, the Thunder Bay is at the west side of Pier 12 in Hamilton. Best I can tell, that pier is shared by Sylvite Agri-Services and Federal Marine Terminals.
Sylvite Agri Services supplies fertilizers and does list gypsum products on its website. https://sylvite.ca/
Federal Marine Terminals is a terminal operator that handles bulk material, among other things. http://www.fmtcargo.com/locations/hamilton/index.html
My hunch is that the product is going to Sylvite Agri-Services, but that is just a hunch.

Re: Thunder Bay
As far as I understand, Domtar sold the Caledonia drywall plant to Georgia Pacific in 1998 and GP idled it in early 2014. Best I can tell, it is still idled.boatbuddy wrote:Domtar has a large drywall plant in Caledoniat south of Hamilton.
Canadian Gypsum Company (CGC, a subsidiary of US Gypsum) has a drywall plant down the road in Hagersville, Ont. However, they have their own active underground mine (at least it was active in 2019, since a worker was injured there). They are also a competitor to National Gypsum so I don't know how much they buy and sell raw material from each other.
It will be interesting to see what dock the Thunder Bay goes to. Perhaps the material will be trucked or railed to CGC in Hagersville. Gypsum has many uses, including in animal feed and fertilizer, so perhaps it may end up near a grain facility for mixing or distribution. That appeared to be the ultimate use of the recent load of gypsum from Newfoundland to Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Re: Thunder Bay
We used to bring it to the Fednav dock in Hamilton from Little Narrows, but I'm not sure where it went from there

Re: Thunder Bay
There have been several trips by CSL self-unloaders with gypsum for Hamilton. Don't know who the customer is, though.

Thunder Bay
CSL's Thunder Bay departed Halifax this evening with a load of gypsum bound for Hamilton, ON. Hamilton seems to be a new port for gypsum - who is the customer?
Gypsum is mined in Nova Scotia by National Gyspum. US Gypsum ceased production at its two mines several years ago.
