I ended up selling all but 3 or 4 of the KYS books and a few other items. Still have some red books and other items that I will be posting in the classified section when I get around to it!

Hope everyone is having a Great Holiday Season!

I agree with you guesty as I also miss Kent and the CCL along with the comments that were always made here on this board. You just knew that you could always get a good laugh from Kent and the CCL anytime he spoke of her. This board just isn't the same these days without Kent the CCL and Lady Pirate to name a few of them! May God Bless all of our departed boatnerd friends that have left us and moved on to calmer seas and waters. Until we meet up with them again someday in that Big Blue Harbor in the Sky someday! I started coming here in either 1998 or 1999 and I can't thank everyone and tell you how much I've learned the knowledge and wisdom I have gained by following this board and website and reading and listening to everyone's comments. Thanks to everyone with boatnerd for letting this young whipper snapper aboard your ship!

Boatnerd trivia. The Carrot Cake Lady was a he, not a she. Sailor, dressed in drag, with a phone book in his drawers for protection, seen walking the docks of Montreal per the original musings from Kent (RIP).

Things used to get interesting here on the regional board. I guess all this dates me as well as a long time visitor.

I started coming here in '98, how about the other old timers?

I'm a little hazy on the date but I think Boatnerd traces its roots back to about 1994 or 1995 when people started posting vessel passages on a "chat board" that floated around out in space somewhere. From there Neil put in the hard work and hours to get the Boatnerd website going. I used to mail items to "Lake Log Chips" but I'm afraid Boatnerd put it out of business rather quickly. Then came the April 1 news postings of ships running on metric time and Neil's laser-equipped icebreaker.

Good to hear from you Rob. I was wondering if you have heard anything about the Carrot Cake Lady. I know Kent Malo would be checking for her this time of year. Merry Christmas to all Boatnerders!!

Hi Rob. I remember you from when I came on board about 2004. It's still a most enjoyable community here!

I've been here since the days of Lake Logs Chips. Never sailed on the Lakes "on the articles", but lots of trips with dad and now my brother. 20 years in the USN. The site now is good, but has some loose cannons. Mike

Hey Paul! Hope things are well with you! I kinda figured that when I didn't recognize most names here. I was trying to figure out when I first started, I think it was around 2000 sometime. Pretty hard into it until I moved to the country and away from the lake but have been trying to keep up a bit on the boats. I have noticed that most of the boats of my time are long gone, changed names or just about done...must mean I'm getting pretty old!

Thanks to everyone who replied!

I have been addicted since 2003,but have been a boat freak My whole life,I am now educated (thanks to Boatnerd)(or as much as a land lubber can be)and now know what I am looking at when I visit Duluth,I wish I could find pictures of the Ford Boats I used to love to see,to see witch one's they were.
The sight has navigated away from the silliness, and has become very serious. I kept a journal when I first started so I could keep tract of the boatnerds I would interact with when I first started, but a lot of them are gone now. I do check in almost everyday and love the posts, just with more of a straight face. mn brett

I've been comeing to this site since I was 14 and in Middle School. I found this site while in Computer class and just happened to find it while doing a online search. Hard to beleave how much has changed since then. I'm now 32 and Married with a daughter that's 6yr old. Despite liveing in Indianapolis Indiana now I come on this site daily to stay up to date on what's going on with the boats. Thanks to everyone who keeps this site going and everyone who contributes to this site on a daily basis.

Has a poll ever been taken as far as how many boatnerds have sailed and how many have become boatnerds by just having an interest or fascination with the boats?

I've been coming here since the late 1990's and thanks to Neil and everyone else for making this site the place for finding out all that there is to know on Great Lakes/Seaway shipping. Thanks to all the volunteers and contributors for making this website what it is today and keeping up the good work as well.

Hi Rob and good to hear from you again.

I've been coming here since somewhere in the 90's. Hard to believe it's going on 20 years.
