Perhaps someone could have the news of Shirley's passing posted to the news board? I will miss her posts as well.

Pam I am also sorry to hear about the loss of your mother as I just came across the news yesterday and I wanted to send along my prayers and condolences as well to you. Your mother Shirley was a gem to all of us boatnerds and she knew how to brighten up one's spirits especially on dull, gray and gloomy days. She always had something good to say and even had a good sense of humor about her as well. I always seen her posts on Beecher's Cleveland reports and other places as well. Now she is at peace and with your Dad and her good friend Violet "Lady Pirate" up in heaven to whom she was good close friends with and adored. I am sure that your Mother and Dad along with Violet are all having a good cup of tea and talking about old times and memories. Remember yourself Pam to keep the memories close to your heart and your parents will always be with you. May God Bless you and your family and give you all comfort, faith and strength to get this through the difficult times and the road ahead. Praying for you and your family as your mother will never be forgotten and her spirit will live on!

Pam OH - so sorry to hear of your loss. Shirley was one of our originals... a kindhearted soul with a good story to warm your heart. She will be missed but never forgotten.

I noticed Shirl's post a few times her and here, but really got to know her in Beecher's Cleveland posts. After hearing about your father and mother being together for the holidays in heaven, turned the sad thoughts to happy ones.

Three long and Two short for you Shirley from all of us at Boatnerd.

Very sorry to hear this, Pam. Your mom has been one of the regulars and I'm glad to hear we were part of her therapy. May she rest in peace.

I am sorry for your loss Pam. Shirley was an Irish sweetie. I found myself going after the night shots of boats just for her. I will miss her.

Three longs and two shorts for Shirl.

My sincere condolences you on your mother's death. Yes, she was very interested in ships and the Great Lakes. Over the years we shared that common interest in e-mails. I know she was eager for a reunion with your dad. May you find comfort in this and recalling the many good memories you shared together. Dawn

To clarify my previous post, the "Shirl" I was referring to is Shirley (shirlohio). Thank you.

Thanks Shirl!

Maritime activity has been very light. The Robert S Pierson was in with a load of coal. I saw these two fleet mates pass last Friday.
Manitowoc out, Cuyahoga in.

Just tug activity here lately. The Louisiana departed the dock before sunrise. The Iowa, Colorado and the Illinois remain at the old GW dock.
Glad to hear the fight against dumping steel here in the USA and Canada is active and the snow dumping here in Cleveland is inactive.
As this 2015 regional boatnerd thread winds down, I want to wish all a Merry Christmas!

Love all these shots, Beecher, and especially the night shots. I always enjoyed seeing the boats with all their lights beaming in the darkness. And thank you for pointing out that those are "Christmas" lights on the Manistee!;-)
Keep your camera at the ready and continue to share.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Forgot to post this picture. We have been seeing an American Bald Eagle lately downtown. We also found these remains of a seagull. It had to be a bird that did this. I guess at it being the Eagle that ate this bird. It does not like "wings" either. Anyone know what eats a gull like this? Is it the Eagle? We need more of them if it is!

The Port of Cleveland is still active with over-sized loads.

The Santa in the Ski Boat was out again for this Browns Game. This time the Browns beat the Prospectors. :)

There was a new Santa on the scene on a Jet Ski. His sack was full of Orange Jello Shots that he was tossing to tailgaters.

So we thought we saw it all when another Santa and his posse showed:

The American Courage was on the shuttle and Santa was chasing her down. I wonder if they got the Jello Shots too?

The days are short now. It is that time of year when a boat can sail up the river, unload, and sail back down all under darkness.
Last night the Manistee sailed up the river.
20151207manistee1.jpg
They installed Christmas lights on the unloading boom. Yes Christmas, not holiday lights.
20151207manistee2.jpg
As the Manistee cleared the Carter Lift Bridge here, the Buffalo was revealed to be right behind her. The night photos are tough with my equipment. I may be making an investment.

Both sailed back down the river before sunrise this morning. The nice thing about the tugs being moored out the window is you can see the activity and form an educated guess on the upcoming activity.

I forgot to add this Holiday photo. We were shooting pics of the Holiday and they started shooting back Sunday. I ducked from this photographer and did not get hit, but my buddies may get famous and have their picture posted somewhere.

Q - If the Holiday installed Christmas lights, would they be Holiday lights or Christmas lights? ;-)

Cheers!

The bridge lights are still blue. The same boats are rotating in and out.
I see out the window that GTugs are tying up at the old GW docks now. They have not done that in the last few years. Their old river channel may be full of boats in for work. Or, I hear the Willow lift bridge is getting some work done and they may be avoiding it.
