Scott, when I sailed (mud 50's) if a crew member did not "fit in"one of the remedies was the silent treatment.


With nobody talking to him, other than work related. he usually left that boat. I saw this work in a few cases.

They move them to another boat. In most instances crews are on rotations, so they aren't on the boat from march-January.

We are not on the boats from fit-out to layup these days. Have vacations and such, so its not like you are stuck there the whole time. Further, it would depend on the situation. If a crew member is unhappy they can quit at anytime. Nobody can force someone to stay. If someone called the office and told them they didn't like the boat and wanted to sail on different one the best the could hope for is being told to finish their hitch, and they'll see what they can do. All of that aside if someone is going around being a real moron and making life hell for everyone they will eventually find themselves without a job.

With each Laker basically sailing most of the year, what happens on board ship with a crew member who just doesn't get along with the rest of the crew? The shipping season is a long one, would someone be forced to "Make the best of it" or would they be given the option to disembark?
