Some beaches on Lake Michigan have so many shells that walking on them is difficult even when wearing shoes. I cannot imagine anybody going barefoot.

It's my understanding that while present in some areas of Lake Superior, the water is too cold out in the lake for a large population to become established as in other lakes.

I am assuming that the presentation was made by Chris Winters of Discovery World Museum in Milwaukee. He talked about the problem as well at the photo exhibit at the Grohmann Museum. If I remember correctly, he felt that the problem in Lake Superior would be the "quagga mussel" rather than the zebra mussel.

We recently attended a presentation which included wreck diving and photography. The presentor stated that Lake Superior wrecks were not - yet - affected by Zebra mussels but that wrecks on the other lakes have been reduced to shapeless colorless masses. From other sources I have heard that the mussels are present in all of the Great Lakes. What is the true situation regarding these invaders in Lake Superior? Thanks.
