Algoma went with the 2 year inspection that allowed her to operate until the end of 2014, apparently opting not to fix the deficiencies. Her external appearance also strongly suggests they aren't willing to put anymore money into her than they have to.

There were two boats named Vallley Camp sailing at the same time. There were two boats named Frontenac, one by cliffs and the other by CSL, sailing at the same time. Gartland simltaneously operated two boats in their fleet named William H Wolf. Also, Mitchell operated two boats in their fleet named William H. Gratwick at the same time. There was also a tub named William H. Gratwick operating at the same time.

Wasn't there a Sidney E. Smith as well as the ill-fated Sidney E. Smith Jr.?

In a previous post the poster said Algosoo failed its last 5 year inspection My 47 years as an engineer and understanding of the inspection system is that a failure means no more sailing.It is however possible that this ship had a few minor defects that had to be corrected within a stated period of time usually between 30-90 days and then reinspected.

only 6 of the Mathers ever sailed.

they never will unless the shipyard starts completeing vessels quickly. Sault is due to arrive early 2015. algosoo is done at the end of the season. failed her last 5 year.

I was actually think more of ships that were running at the same time with very similar names, like 3 ships all with derivatives of William P. Snyder. Must have made calling in a pain. Soo Control - "say again William P. Snyder?" William P. Snyder Jr- "No so control this is the Snyder Jr."

Algosoo and Algoma Sault could potentially sail at the same time. Allthough probably not for long.

There must have been at least seven Samuel Mathers. Strictly speaking, the Wilpen was named for Snyder's estate east of Pittsburgh, but the estate's name was a combination of his first two names, William and Penn.

You can check many different sources as far as many ships with one similar name. The Fleet History Gallery for one has all of the current ships sailing along with their histories. Also, check out the MHSD Historic Gallery for older vessels as well. There are just too many to lists here on this board but, there has been many ships that have had one similar name to them. Samuel Mather is one as there were around seven give or take. The Scott Misener was also one that had many ships carry that name. These are just a few as I mentioned, there are just too many to list here on this board.

I was reading the post about containers on the Great Lakes and the William P. Snyder came up. I realized at one time there were at least 3 vessels with some form of William P. Snyder-

Wilpen, William P. Snyder, and William P. Snyder jr. Senior named two ships for himself!

There was also the-

J. Pierpoint Morgan, and J.P. Morgan jr.

Where there anymore? I'm not counting car ferries.
