Just read the news that Captain Tim Dayton is on his last and final trip as skipper of the Paul R. Tregurtha. Does anyone know who will be taking his place and become the next skipper and captain of the Paul R. Tregurtha? I have many memories of Capt. Dayton from his days on the Mesabi Miner to when he took over and had huge shoes to fill from the passing of another veteran captain and icon Mitch Hallin and his passing in 2002. Captain Dayton will be missed and my only regret is that I didn't get to see him one last time in 2014 before his retirement. I hope if he reads this that he appreciates all of the thank yous for him blowing the salute to one of his many fans. Even if he didn't blow a salute, it just felt good to see the Queen of the Lakes moving up or down the river anytime I saw them. Thanks for the memories Captain Tim Dayton and enjoy your retirement as you've earned it. 3L and 2S to you!
