I second that Tim as I will take that 83 degree weather as well. Weeks ago, Freighter Frank Frisk said "He had just come back from Key West Florida and I told him, I want to go down there and get out the cold winter especially if we have another one like we had last year!" Also, it seems I recall someone posted something here a while ago about "A possible Polar Vortex coming sometime this fall about September?" Well, whoever the person was they sure were close on their prediction as we are getting an Artic Blast coming this week. You also have to give me credit as I kept telling my family, friends and others "At some point as nice a summer as we had and a long stretch of perfect weekends, we would have to make it up at some point probably in the fall!" Guess you could say I had my prediction correct huh? Just look at the weather we are getting lately for fall with lots of rain, cold, winds and now the Artic Blast coming this week. This winter should be interesting!

We here in the Detroit area are supposed to get "An Artic Blast" this week that will send temperatures plummeting into the 30s with lows at night in the 20s with some teens. This sure isn't any type of November weather that I've been accustomed to in my lifetime as this is more like December and January weather coming in for this week. Just way too soon and early for this type of cold as on average, we don't get it like this until December but mostly in January and February. Let's hope that it doesn't stick around for long and that we start to warm it back up again close to normal soon.

The Cold Weather is Finally Here!

The colder temperatures are Finally upon us... finally! It is nice to not have to run the a/c and can finally open windows, saving hundreds a month in electric charges. Another season of watching the weather reports from back home in Michigan and the only time of the year where I do not absolutely hate where I live! I live in a city about 30 miles west of Phoenix called Buckeye,AZ. Living in Buckeye is a strange coincidence for me because the first freighter (out of 8) I ever sailed on was the Steamer Buckeye. The ship I permanently injured my shoulder on all those years ago, which I have had 3 surgeries on in the past 2 years..the Buckeye.
Now, as I await my 4th surgery on my shoulder, I am homesick for Michigan and its changing of the seasons. Unfortunately for me I moved the whole family to the desert 10 years ago and my wife refuses to do the snow thing again, so after much grumbling by me we have reached the ages old marriage compromise, we are staying in the desert with the rattlesnakes and the scorpions who manage to intrude into everywhere in the house...even the bedroom during the summer where I have caught them hanging from the overhead vent directly above my bed.
Captain Jaworski used to say "Its always a pleasure crew on the Buckeye.". Unfortunately for me that concept doesn't apply here. The desert is no place for an old sailor.
By the way its gonna be 83 here today which means I may have to run the AC for a few hours... sigh.
