Michigan vs Michigan State Friday ( 1-30-2015 ) at 7:30 pm. Should be a good game

Having been to games at both Target Field and The Bank, I think TCF, as far as sight lines go, is a better place to have the game.

i agree with denny ! hockey was invented to be played outside. the problem here is the weather. when it is snowing the tv cameras can't get a good shot of the action. when the sun shines bright the tv cameras can't get a good shot of the action. then there are the fans who like the comfort of being inside and comfortable. plus, they sell a lot more food and drinks when the fans are comfortable. all of these things have caused the ticket prices to be beyond what I can afford but, I try to watch as many games as possible on my tv. the all star skills contest was fun to watch - those guys can really skate. i also like to watch college hockey on tv most friday nights. i am lucky enough to have a skating rink just behind my house and i don't miss a chance to see my grandkids skating and playing hockey instead to playing xbox games.

That makes sense to have them play that at TCF Bank Stadium as the NHL has played many of the outdoor games in baseball parks as part of the "Stadium Series." I can't wait to watch some of the outdoor games in 2016 as that should be fun to watch. Also looking forward to the Wings vs Avs game in 2016 outside as well. Just a thought but, for the Winter Olympics they should have the hockey games outside instead of inside! Now that would be worth watching on TV for sure! Anyone care to agree with me about hockey being outdoors in the Winter Olympics compared to inside?

I just saw in the Minneapolis Star Tribune the game will be played at TCF Bank Stadium next season.

TCF Bank Stadium is the other choice for the site of the Wild outdoor game here in Minnesota. Hard to believe, but it's 41F here in Duluth this afternoon. This wouldn't be a great day for outdoor hockey. Feels more like the weather I was used to growing up in the NW part of the Lower Peninsula.

denny this is terrific news for hockey fans like myself. these games should be a sell-out. nothing better than seeing the original 6 playing outdoor hockey - the way hockey was first played-outdoors.

This might interest all of you hockey fans out there. Just got news that the Minnesota Wild will be hosting an outdoor hockey game in 2016 with the Chicago Blackhawks as part of the "Stadium Series" and the Wings will play the Avs also outdoors as part of the series as well. Possible outdoor Stadium sites are Target Field for the one with the Wild, while Coors Field has been mentioned for the Wings game. These two games will be played outdoors in 2016 along with the Winter Classic as well. The Winter Classic in 2016 will be up in New England at Gillette Stadium the Patriots home and will have the Boston Bruins vs Montreal Canadiens. Now that should be a true Winter Classic game with two Original 6 teams! I think the NHL likes to do the outdoor games, especially the Winter Classic with the Original 6 teams as you take a look at the Wings, Leafs and the Blackhawks in the past few at the Winter Classic games.

The Wings take on the Wild tonight at the Joe. The Wings have won four in a row and this will be their last game before the all-star break. The young players on the Wings are starting to put up some impressive stats. The young guys are putting on a real show each game. Meanwhile in Toronto - things are getting ugly. Many fans were arrested after throwing their maple Leaf shirts onto the ice. I know that the team is having a hard time winning games but this action by a few fans is just not acceptable ! As a fan - you have a lot of rights after you purchase a ticket to the game but- to show disrespect for the entire maple leaf organization is just not what true fans of hockey do at games - period !

The red wings played a very exciting game against the Predators last night ( 1-17-'15) and won 5-2.Tatar scored twice while Mrazek made 34 saves in goal. The Zetterberg goal in the 2nd period was a classic ! From behind the goal line ( to the left and behind the goal ) - he banked his shot off the mask of the Predator's goalie and into the net. I'm not sure how many times he could make this goal - in a row - but the replay is worth watching. These guys are playing exciting hockey and they are worth watching.

Just wondering though if any of you hockey boatnerds out there ever seen the movie "Miracle" which was made by Disney and is all about the 1980 USA team that beat the Russian team and later got the gold medal in the Lake Placid, New York Winter Olympics? There is some movie to watch if you have not seen it already and don't have it on DVD! It stars Kurt Russell as the coach who would later die (the coach) before the real movie was ever made. I was only about 8 years old during the 1980 Winter Olympics and was too young and not interested in hockey at that time. However after seeing the Miracle movie, that had to be sometime and something to see and witness history when team USA shocked and upset the world by beating the Russians and then later winning the gold in those Olympics. One of the best scenes in that movie was near the end when team USA comes out of the dressing room to face the Russian team. My point is, you just get choked up as I always do and you just feel proud to be an American and that these young men are playing for such pride and passion and representing the USA in such a way that the average Joe just can't even begin to imagine. It just sends chills up your spine whenever they show that scene! Also, to see some of the players celebrate with their family as well is another heartwarming and touching scene in my opinion.

I've been a huge Wings fan all of my life. However, believe it or not I never knew a think about Hockey and how the game was played until the Wings started to win the Stanley Cup in the late 1990s. That is when I started to get interested in them and it was not until New Year's Eve 1999 believe it or not that I went to my first ever Red Wings game at the Joe! That is an experience that I will never forget and in fact, I think my ears are still deaf over the P.A. system that night and the crowd roaring. I've also attended a few Playoff games as well and there is nothing like seeing an NHL game live and in person I don't care what anybody says! Have not been though to a Wings game in quite a few years now and haven't kept up on them now that most of the players from the Cup teams are now gone and retired. I have also watched some of the Hockey whenever the Winter Olympics are on. Unfortunately I was too young to watch the 1980 New York Olympics when the USA beat the Russians and later won the gold. That was some game though!

I finally found out where Don Cherry gets his suites !

I love this guy and - he knows his hockey. When things go bad in Canada - he always ends his show with giving the many Canadian hero's the respect and honor for which they have given their lives.

U betcha!! Hoping the wild can make the playoffs with the new goalie, if not, I guess I'm gonna pull for the Caps. Been watching lots of college hockey too. Minnesota Duluth looks like they got a good team, so does Michigan Tech.

Also grew up glued to the tv watching hockey night in Canada and the esso commercials . Favorite team and still is the Chicago blackhawks really didn't have a choice because my uncle was captain pierre pilote . He is now 82 and healthy as can be and still does a lot with the Hawks and the hockey hall of fame which he is a member. What memories and great times I was lucky enough to be part of .

Tim- The Toronto Maple Leafs are a great team. Their history goes back to the start of the NHL and they have had many great teams. They seem to be changing coaches a lot and I hope 'Shany' can turn this great team around. Many Saturday nights have been spent in front of the TV watching Hockey Night in Canada as Danny Gallavan ( sp ) sent their games across the airwaves. Edmonton and NY Islanders are another two great teams. They haven't done much in the playoffs as of late but they both have a lot of talent. The Islanders play the Penguins tonight and should be a good game to watch. Yup - Probert and Kocur could really play the game and they were entertaining when they went 'toe to toe' and let their fists fly. I watch a lot of college hockey as well and tonight we have Michigan vs Ohio State. Both teams have a bunch of good players. I just wish I knew Don Cherry's tailor.

Watched Hockey Night in Canada all my life and have been a die hard Toronto Maple Leafs fan. I do watch other teams Edmonton and NY Islanders but the Leafs are my love in Hockey. Cant say as I pay much attention to the Wings ever since Probert and Kocur left they have no interest for me.

Now that winter is setting in, I was wondering if enough Boatnerds would be interested in a hockey thread ? If so, please leave your ideas and interests and we'll see if enough folks are interested in getting this off the ground. I'm a old time Red Wing fan having watched them since the early 50's. I remember great names like Howe, Sawchuck and Red Kelly who all played in the old barn ( Olympia ). I still enjoy watching Hockey Night in Canada to see what Don Cherry is wearing for a sports coat ! So, dust off your keyboard and drop us a line to let us know if you folks enjoy hockey.
