With all these old terms being re-cycled I just got a new term from the weather a weather forecaster in NY -

WBI = we blew it !

Bombogenesis is a true term and was actually coined in the late 70s in a research paper on a storm the QE2 ran into in 1978. It is an extra-tropical cyclone that drops at least 24 milibars in 24 hours (depends on the latitude). As for the Polar Vortex, it is formed in the polar regions due to 24hours of darkness in the winter months. The correct term is circumpolar vortex and it is always there.

today i learned another outlandish weather term called Bombogenesis. this is weather talk for a really bad storm. last year it was the polar vortex. this is weather talk for a really cold day. i think it's time we boat nerds make up a few weather terms of our very own. these new terms should be unique to the great lakes and boats in general. so, while we await the spring thaw, how about us nerds invent a few new weather terms of our very own. i'll start with :
