Looks like the Navegante is still alive and well, wintering in Wheatley Ontario, according to today's News Photo Gallery (photo by George Lee).

I saw that the Navegante has been getting around, saw her again last week in Goderich on Lake Huron. Lots of activity for a tug that's for sale.

Noticed that today’s News Photo Gallery (8-12-14) has a recent photo by Monty Young showing the Navegante at her dock in Port Dover Ontario.

This weekend the Junction Buoy restaurant in Marysville, Michigan was serving fresh Lake Huron Whitefish harvested from the Canadian side of Lake Huron by the Navegante. So it’s definitely out there earning a living.

Shipbuildinghistory.com shows that the fishing vessel Navegante was built at Erieau Shipbuilding, Erieau, Ontario in 1946. Official Number designation 156868. As of November 29, 2011 it was named the Lewis Lass.

Apparently it was renamed again back to Navigante sometime after November 2011.
According to the Transport Canada website as of October 17, 2013 the vessel was registered as the Navigante.

There is an excellent new book out on the vessels built at the Erieau shipyard. There is information about the Lewis Lass/Navegante in the book. Not sure where you can get it, but I picked up mine at the Port Dover Harbour Museum.

You have the right tug as far as I know. She was originally fished out of Port Stanley in the 50's as the Lewis Lass. Some time in the 80's I think she was bought by Prestive and completely re built and named Navegante. She was re named Lewis Lass maybe 5 to 7 years ago and I don't think she was fished that often. Now maybe over the last couple of years she is the Navegante again. I have seen her fir sale for quite a few years so I was surprised to see her on Lake Huron this week.

Her name has flip-flopped between Lewis Lass and Navegante a few times. She was originally the Goodison built Lewis Lass.

Was she not originally Navegante and then renamed Lewis Lass at one time? If so when was she renamed Navegante? Or do I have two different fish tugs mixed up?

She is fishing for Presteve.

Fish tug Navegante is docked in Bayfield Ontario, wondering if she is fishing for Presteve or possible sold to a Lake Huron fisherman? She was for sale for quite some time. Thanks
