Ummm yeah, that is more reading than any one person can do!

I'd like to recommend a book for you kindle guys (and gals). It's a sea-faring adventure called *Diablero* by Toby Tates. I read the (real) book and it is excellent. It's about pirates and voodoo and zombies oh my! LOL. But mostly, it's about Blackbeard. The characterization in this book is great, and was happy to learn that the two main characters (Lisa and Hunter) are also in Mr. Tate's upcoming book, due out at the end of this year or early 2012. Check out *Diablero*, you won't be disappointed! :)

Anyone know - On average, how many books one of those can hold? Are there ports to transfer the material to a PC?

You only need signal to download books. Once down loaded they are there.

Yeah, I am finding out through FB that a lot of the older, out-of-print books are showing up on these kindles, and cheap, too. And a lot of new authors are starting out on kindle too.

Still, you can't take a kindle to bed to read- I mean, you can- but, it's not like taking a good book. It just wouldn't be the same! But I can see how they would work out for you sailors- all those books in one tiny kindle. Do you have to be online to read the books, or have a signal or whatever?

When i first discovered how many books you can get on there I thought it was overkill too, but it isn't.... as long an you know what you want to read about... You find books on there like you find websites with a search engine. Plus, you can DL a 'sample' before deciding to get the whole book. Lots of older stuff is free too, so you can't go wrong really.

My first fear was that i wouldn't like reading from a 'screen' and that it would feel like i was reading from my computer monitor. This proved to be totally unfounded, you have to see it in your hand to fully get it, but the screen doesn't feel like one.

Thanks for the info, Scott. Still undecided. One kindle's ad read *Two million books to browse*- {gulp} that is overwhelming, even for an avid reader! More like over-kill!

Yes, i have one. I love it, its the DX version. Their are some Great Lakes books on there but not lots. Their is still something to be said for a 'real' book, but the Kindle is very useful and if your thinking about it stop thinking and get one.

It is beyond useful for sailors. You can DL books whenever you have cell signal, no more problems getting new reading material.

I know there are a lot of boatnerds who are avid readers- do you have a Kindle & if so, which one do you have & how do you like it? Are there a lot of Great Lakes books available on Kindle? I don't have one, still read the (old-fashioned, lol) books. TIA
