Brett, I did not know that you were into big engines. I am restoring four right now. Next time you are in Duluth you will have to stop out at my shop. Give me a call if you have time at 218-348-8888.

Thanks to the snow in Duluth, the sun was shining as usual. We enjoyed our visit, had great food and company. The time went fast, we want to say it is just our own effort, to meet folks with the same interest in boats. I'm sure many more has the same interest. Mn Brett, followed through with the get together and childhood memories brought to life. I thank all with the meet and greet and our guest speaker Jordan for sharing life at sea.

Once again a little snow could not stop the fun. On Sunday roughly 20 boat people got together in Duluth for dinner and drinks. This event was a giant leap forward from a crowded bar event held 5 years earlier. The room overlooked an angry looking Lake Superior. The crowd was a great mix of maritime experience from seasoned Boat Nerd Posters to a couple of Masters. The key note speaker was Captain Jordan Cohen who served on the Gott as a teenage deck hand. Jordan left the Lakes for the US Navy and served in the Middle East in varied posts as a LT.Cmdr. on Destroyers to RIBs. Boats gave a short report on the status of the Ford waiting the welders torch at Azcon . The smaller crowd allowed everyone to ask lots of questions that were answered clearly. Everyone was on the edge of their seats when Jordan described the bosun chair rides at various ports. He also spoke on the various ways these men got back on departing vessels as well. There were lots of photos of great lakes ships past and present. This was more than a local event as some boatnerds drove over 5 hours to participate. All agreed that Winter has served long enough as Master and look toward Spring and Summer for more boatnerd action.

Brett It is a good idea to shift to this page . Sort of like hailing on 16 and shifting to 8. I sense a bit of conflict about the Gathering.I would avoid the word Gathering and sub in something more laid back like winter get together . There is room for everybody who wants to put together an event and it looks like the summer is planned. I am sure there are guys and gals that would like the chance to get together and talk boats. There is a lot of chat about miles and weather conditions that factor in. This get together could encourage the people to meet in their own regions more often. It is not about who is in charge , it is about who is having fun. It is hard to focus on the love of all things maritime when personalities become involved and feelings get hurt. My marina slipmate, dive instructor and friend Elmer Engman started his own show and it turned out OK. Count me in and GOOD LUCK.

Duluth Winter Boatnerd gathering

by mn brett » January 10, 2016, 5:53 pm

I just got off the Phone with Black Woods Bar and Grill, and I booked an area for Sunday February 21 st in the big room facing London road and the (Holiday) gas station. They have a fee of 150 but they lowered it to 75 and We all buy Our own dinner and Drinks. We have it from 1 to 4,We can put out a can and We all can pitch in a few bucks to cover the booking. If there is any snow or very nasty cold We will than reschedule for a later date. I will be on top of the weather channel all week so please keep an eye on this Regional post, not the info post.
Are some of You interested in getting together for a few hours to visit and get to know each other, trade photo's or bring what ever would be fun to do,I have know agenda for events. I live two hours away as well and if someone else has a better place or idea I can call Black woods up and cancel.
Let Me know! mn brett
