I went to NMU and in the mid 1980's an was once the
most impressive site when coming into the Marquette
from the southeast off M28/41 highway. The Soo Line
railroad overpass an a good portion of track was still
intack during that time frame.I am not sure if I have
a photo or not in one of my albums, will take a look.
The reason the overpass (which by the way was one of
the most photographed tourist sites when entering the
city from the southeast), unfortunately with much objection
from hundreds of railfans an historians, the incident which
caused authorities and city officials to have it eventually
torn down as the result from what I vaguely remember that
a few young people followed the tracks up the inclined
railroad overpass and they fell into one of the ore chutes,
and either they were injured or had gotten killed?
Its been quite awhile,so maybe someone from from group
who lives up there or remembers the incident can chime in
which led to them tearing down this historic site. Thanks,
