Algowest, you may be correct on the 1997 or 1998 thing as far as her having engine problems and waiting on engine parts. I recall twice seeing her in 1998 in Sarnia each time at the Government Dock. The first time was I think in May 1998 and the other was for certain in August of that year as well. That was before they threw the dust reclaimers on her and she started hauling those clinker cargoes that would eventually do her in along with all of the salt cargoes as well. At least back then even though she was converted to a self-unloader, she still looked very good and nice! Not like she is now unfortunately. I agree sad to see her go as I only saw her once in 2014 and did not see her in 2015 other than when she was at lay-up in Sarnia for the Winter. A bit off subject here, but it is only a matter of time before the Jackman ends up looking just as bad as the Cresswell does now! Since the Jackman has taken up the Cresswell's job of hauling salt and clinker cargoes she will also be doomed eventually from hauling all of those cargoes! I also ask and wonder with the new ships Algoma is building overseas, if they would try to build one to replace the Cresswell and Jackman on those cement clinker runs? I am sure they will haul there share of salt loads but, who will handle the cement clinker runs once the Cresswell and eventually the Jackman are done? Just my 2 cents!
