Thanks for all the responses and information everyone. It does make sense to me that she went up to Duluth first to unload the windblades then came down to Bay City to unload the cargo she had in her holds and now heading back to the twin ports to load. I know the last few season's they have been doing dredging work in the Saginaw River and Bay and i believe i heard they also will be doing more dredging work this season as well so im not sure what the current depth is for the Bay and River is. I know i did read they would like to have grain loaded again in the future so i am sure there starting to dredge for seaway levels. Denny my friend i hope that you get well very soon and my fingers are crossed for you to make it back to the river in August and that the weather works out for you. I also currently am battling a upper respiratory issue, but with me the last 5yrs or so every summer i catch pneumonia once. So im just takeing it easy and taking my medication and hope to be feeling well very soon.

SJARD arrived on the lakes with wind turbine towers on deck. These were unloaded in Duluth.

The following is GUESS only.

The cargo (some or all) in the holds was intended for Bay City but couldn't be unloaded until the towers were off the deck and it didn't make sense to take the towers off and put them back on.

Now that the ship is empty, it can head to a loading pport, in this cse Duluth.

The move from Duluth to Bay City then back might be because of draft restrictions at Bay City. I assume the ship was loaded to full Seaway draft on entering the lakes and might have been too deep to make a first stop at Bay City.

All the years I've lived in Duluth I doubt if I've seen it more than a couple times.

Sort of a roundabout way to get here again, but duluthboats.com has her back here in the Twin Ports on Friday to load grain at Cenex Harvest States in Superior. Don't think I've seen that where a saltie leaves here and then on her same trip comes back again to load.

Hey Dan, good to hear from you my friend. Glad to help in any way I can on the Sjard information. You may or may not know this but she is supposed to be headed back up to Duluth-Superior again and I assume take on a grain cargo maybe up there? This is from the Duluth Shipping News' website that I got this information from and hope that it helps. I think I also read on here to that Sjard was at the Fertilizer Dock in Bay City doing something there when she came in. Don't mean to get off subject here but, I am hanging in there but got a bad summer cold right now. Hope to be rid of it in time for the 4th of July and my birthday as well. I was thinking about starting the river in July but, got the Mackinac Races as always to contend with and the St. Clair Power Boat Races at the end of the month. I try to avoid them due to all the crowds and the traffic. Hoping to start maybe in August once most of the festivals have ended for the year. Cross your fingers and pray for some cooler less humid weather in August as that's what I'm waiting for!

Thanks for the reply and the information my friend. Sorry it's taken me a couple days to respond back. I also was thinking her cargo was windmill parts or windmill blades. What i was suprised about was she went up to the Twin Ports area first and i assume uploaded and most likely took on cargo up there as well before heading for Bay City. Usually the saltwater boats unload in Bay City first before heading elsewhere. I know if my Aunt and Uncle and the boys were still alive they would love seeing Saltwater ships again calling on the Saginaw River.
I hope that you make it down to the river in the soon near future. The weather here has been kinda like its been in your area. The last few days or so have been very humid and in the 90's but today we got a break and it was only in the Mid 70's with low humidity and a North Wind. I'll still take the heat and humidity over the cold anyday though. Take care my friend. I hope your mom and family are doing well and ya get to the river soon.

Hi Dan, not 100% sure but I would guess it is probably going to be something related with the Wind Towers or Windmill stuff if you know what I mean? They unloaded a bunch of those in Duluth at the Port Terminal so they may be unloading or maybe loading some from Bay City? I don't know for sure but that would be my guess on that. Hope that this helps. Enjoy your summer also as I am still waiting to get started up in 2016. Don't like the Hot Days and hoping for a little cooler weather with less humidity and sorry that I got off track and subject here.

Just curious if anyone knows what shes bringing into Bay City? I know she was just up in the Twin Ports a few days ago. Thanks for any information.
