Thanks for the information! The anvil shape just seemed curious to me, but I agree it appears to be naturally formed.

As far as I know it is natural. This 1866 chart shows it similar to how it is shaped today, although the point at the south end has been filled in and made wider.

In looking at Pequaming, Michigan in Michigan's Upper Peninsula on Google Earth, I have the following question: Is this land formation man-made or natural? It looks sort of oddly shaped to be a natural formation. Was it an island that was connected to the shore by filling in the area between the island and the land?
