Since this thread is titled CSL Self-Unloaders, I thought that I would ask if anyone knows or have heard anything regarding the Salarium laid-up in Montreal? Is the Salarium scheduled to sail this year and if so when? Last year, they started to sail late during the season and I am expecting her to do the same thing if and when she does sail in 2017 that is. Any info is appreciated. Thank You.

I heard last night there is a new contract which the Union is bringing to the crews starting on Monday and the Union is okay with this contract. It is all CSL deck crew, doesn't matter if straight or self unloaders. It has to do mostly with OT and will affect the OS, not anyone who currently stands a watch as they will get their assigned 8 hours, so ABs won't have to worry. Just OS and the GPs. Algoma will then negotiate. The Union has to give CSL 72 hour notice before they can walk off.

Union is now suggesting no strike because this contract is what they will get.

If the strike does happen, could this mean some of the boats that are laid up will come out to fill any gaps in trade for customers seeking product?

Is it just the self-unloaders from CSL that may be effected with this or does this include some of the bulk carriers that carry grain such as the CSL St-Laurent, CSL Welland and the recently activated Cedarglen? If this ends up effecting the bulkers as well as the CSL self-unloaders, this could have rippling effects in the industry IMO anyway. This also sort of reminds me of a similiar situation back I think it was in 2008? At that time didn't ASC have some issues with one of their unions and a bunch of their ships went into lay-up for a while only to return a short time later? Thanks in advance for any news and or information anyone may have here regarding this.

Yes there is a very good chance that we will be on strike, enough of the company wanting to take away what little we have left from what we had 45yrs ago. Time to take a stand

Looks like the steady employees on CSL self unloaders will be striking next week talks broke down and they will no longer speak to the union ships will be tied up!
