The Lafarge Gravel dock in Marblehead, Ohio offers excellent viewing when active. Last year it was dead, this year we see as many as five boats a weekend. Turn down Frances Street off of 163 to the Coast Guard station for the best view. Less then two miles on down 163 is the Marblehead Lighthouse. A mst see for Boatnerds. Continue on around the peninsula for views of Cedar Point and an occasional ship headed to the coal dock in Sandusky.

Its hard to get a good look at the Sandusky Coal dock from land. I suggest the public launch ramp in downtown.

Huron has Very few boats. Vermillion has the Inland Seas Museum which is very nice. Models, a full size steam engine etc. This museum is moving to Toledo.

For your rail watching head for Bellvue to the Mad River Railroad Musem. http://www.madrivermuseum.org/

Cleveland offers better boat watching then Lorain. Visit the flats and wander around.

Have a great trip.

fostoria is a pretty big rr junction point on csx & ns. i think there's a glass museum there.unless it's got something with more than 2000hp loco or boat, i won't be going there. :}

I would suggest you stop in Huron, OH. It's just off of Rt2, US 6 I think. They get occasional boats at the Lime Plant and a "very occational) like one this year~ boat at the ore dock. You can walk out on the break walk to the light beacon. If you check the vessel passages for Port Huron, you might be able to get a "heads up" on the Great Lakes Fleet vessel headed for Huron. Have a great trip. Mike
