I've followed the [i][i]Happy River[/i][/i]delivering wind turbine parts from Bécancour, Quebec all Summer and she's back loading now 8-25. I'm interested how late this season she'll continue the run.

The offshore project that you are referring to does not yet have a permit so they are saying the earliest construction would be 2021. And they plan to use Vestas wind turbines. Vestas manufactures all over the world, including building blades, nacelles, and towers in Colorado. So they might supply the project with wind turbines built in the US, which would obviously have to come by rail and/or truck.

All that said, I haven't been watching shipping traffic into Cleveland, so maybe I'm completely off base.

there appears to be a lot of 'activity' with Wind Turbine deliveries around the Great Lakes this summer....AUG 19th 3 ships: BBC Volga, Happy River and Industrial Strength all discharging turbines in Duluth.
Happy River has been to Erie with wind turbine deliveries 3 times in June/July.....final destination not being disclosed?
Looks like may of these shipments are originating out of Becancour - as noted in posts.
Any deliveries to Cleveland for the 'Icebreaker Project'??

Was informed by the captain that most of the second Blue Water Bridge came over on the Badger.

Bout 6-8 years ago, a yacht building company here in Holland, MI, was gearing up to make wind turbine blades. 147' long was their "model". Several blades were made for evaluation purposes, but something happened, as they instantly shut down one day. Understand there were some mergers that happened and as a result, the construction contract was voided.

They've been taking weird and oversized loads for a while. They carried pieces for a bridge ( I believe for Port Huron) back in the 1990's. One of the mates told me that it was the heaviest that they had been since they carried railcars. I was oiling and firing on her back then.

Some of these are shipped across Lake Michigan on the good old SS Badger which can carry some VERY large and long loads across the Lake avoiding all the special oversize load permits required through the Chicago area. GE was or still is, making or was making turbines in Virginia. Maybe someone else knows whether they still do or not. Turbine blades and the towers do not make a good product to deliver by railroad, but the motors do.

I also think some of the wind turbine parts come as far as Becancour, Quebec and Valleyfield, Quebec, are unloaded and then reloaded onto salties and make their way to Duluth.

I've seen a few from the Port of Montreal's website listed from India coming from a port there named Kandla I think it is? Hope this helps.
