Yes, the Apalacee is for sale. The CG Tug Assoc has very few volunteers in the Cleveland area. Apalacee needs a crew of at least 6 people to get her underway; she had a crew of 21 when she was in the USCG. I'm usually aboard Apalacee doing engineering maintenance on Mondays and some Wednesdays - I work on the other days. Once a month, another engineer drives out from Rhode Island to assist; he was here Sept 5-7, and will be back next week.

Hi MN,
The weather is creeping back to normal. Just a wake up call to what is coming I guess. Water temp here is 67*.

The Calumet has been up and down the river. Cleveland Rocks is unloading stone under the bridges now.

I have been watching for the fall recreational fishing activity to fare up. But nothing yet.

I travel by the Apalache a few times a week. No activity and the For Sale signs are still up.

Frontier Sentinal exercises started up today. It should be a great test for everyone involved. I feel the after action reports will come back with preaching the basics in lines of communications.

The Cleveland National Airshow is always a treat. The Maritime setting makes the show. They buzz us when we are perched atop the building downtown. They come really close to us. We have traded waves with pilots of the military jets in the past as they sweep around heading back to the center line at Burke Lakefront.

Talk about weather changes, we had 19 degrees in northern Minnesota two nights ago, frost down as far as the Twin Cities.
Seems a tad too early for that kind of weather.

Boy, the weather has sure changed. We have been having fun at the lakefront here anyway. I just watched the Buffalo pass Cleveland/Cleveland Rocks in the river. Tight quarters there.

The Algoma Transfer was in last week. Canadian Enterprise is too big to come up the river.

This tug looks to be in poor condition. I first spotted it tied up over by the Carter Rd Bridge about six years ago. Now she is a little further up river nearer Collision Bend. Almost by where Diamond Jim's Steak House used to stand until it was torn down this summer. I don't know who owns the Tug or any plans for it.

If you go further down river you will find the Apalache tied up too. It has "for sale" signs flying on it now.

The lake boat traffic has been steady with all the normal visits. Except I think I saw the Canadian Enterprise about a week ago.

We have two Salties at the Port now.

The National Air Show goes off this weekend. There is an FCC safety zone variance in the harbor area. I will charge the camera batteries and get some shots fitting for this board.

Does anyone know what she's doing in Cleveland (other than sitting there tied up)?

That's the former G-tug Ashtabula.

So, I went to the Tribe game last night against the Royals (Indians won), and on my way to the stadium going through the Walkway to Gateway, I spotted the tug pictured below in the river. I wondered if anyone might know anything about it. It certainly looks like it may have been a G tug at some point, but I know nothing about it.

I also like the fake birds at the end of each dock. We had one at the aft engine room door and the birds built their nest right on top of it.

Oscar must have one heck of a tan by now!
I see a aerator is still running at the end of one of the docks.
Are they expecting a sudden cold snap?

Dorothy Ann and Rebecca Lynne danced on the river last Sunday during a drenching rain. We recorded over 3.5" of rain that day.

They are both in the river here. They passed where Dorothy Ann is show in the upper part of the picture. D/A had to move. The rain came so hard you could not see them any longer.

Saltie in your picture was Polsteam's Drawsko. The American Mariner was in to CBT and you saw the Manistee come downriver.

We have three salties in Port now. We were watching the lake from the roof last night and heard boat whistles on the river and near the Harbor entrance.
We could see one of the salties here.

The river valley was full of activity. Janet Jackson was playing at the Jacobs Pavilion on the river bank. I believe it was the Cuyahoga that sailed past the concert. We saw a boat pull up to Whiskey Island's Bulk Terminal while we were watching. I don't know who it is but you can see the pilot house lights and boom in the top of this picture over all the West Bank Flats activity. The Nautica Queen is moored in the river here too.

The Tribe game finished up with a fireworks display last night. It was a pretty good slam bang performance reverberating all over the river valley.

Anyone know of the fate for the Alpalache? Coast Guard Bob's report was kinda sad. I thought the city was behind the effort to bring her here and partner her up with the old coast guard station.

The placing of a hulett in one of the Mather's holds was considered during the early stages of her restoration. The cost to do so was the major factor in this not happening.

The present Mather paint sheme was all political. Former Mayor Mike White did not have any use for a 600 ft. black hulk taking up his prime lakefront real estate. To him the Mather was a big eyesore and wanted her gone. There were several paint designs drawn up to give the Mather a more appealing look to the everyday passer by as well appease Mike White. The present color choices were fought and frowned on by the original river bend restoration crew. To try and help secure a new lease on the Mather's lakefront berth this paint sheme was chosen and applied. If I recall the paint was donated by Sherwin-Williams who also mixed up the original Cliffs green paint being used on the restoration.
