You should enter that one into the photo contest. That is one awesome shot. Also, Tom Skilling of WGN-TV in Chicago would love that as well.[/quote]

Already entered a photo a few days ago.

Sorry about the quality, it was taken off a cell phone camera.

Lightning hitting boats aside, that is a spectacular photo. And taken with a cell phone. I love it.

It really depends on what it hits. We were struck by lightning on the B.F.Fairless, and it took out both radar sets and both VHF radios, basically fried them. No one hurt though. I would not want to have been talking on the radio when it happened though.

It is not uncommon and it generally does not result in any damage as the boat is grounded to the water.

Isolda Hit By Lightning?

by Jnorthup95 » July 11, 2010, 9:20 pm

This afternoon, I went to Lighthouse beach in Port Huron to watch the Isolda and St. Clair come in off the Lake. A strong storm rolled in just a few miles north and a few lightning bolts were spotted. As the Isolda passed Lights 7 & 8 it appeared the Isolda was hit by bolt of lightning. When the ship passed I was not able to spot any damage. Is it common for ships to get hit by lightning?
