Sorry Denny, but the center was closed permanently at the end of last year. The building was only meant to be a temporary structure and was in poor repair. They didn't get enough business to justify the structure being replaced or rebuilt and the parking lot was a nightmare. The area is being looked at for condos or apartments which I think is a good use of it considering it was a rail yard for 75 years.

It closed last year at the end of the season. There were stories about it. The property is owned by Acheson Ventures. I suspect they want to sell/revelop it.

Was at the St. Clair River today and noticed the Maritime Center in Port Huron has now been closed up and no flags anymore we’re flying on the top of it. When did it get close the Maritime Center and why? I think it was closed either last year or this year sometime then? Thought I heard or read once, they had damage to its roof years ago from too much rain and that caused the roof to leak and create damage to which they could not fix up or repair and replace. Does anyone think that the Maritime Center will ever be saved and will it ever re-open again someday? I along with many others I’m sure would hate to see it then close permanently and it would be a shame if it fell into the wrong hands and if nothing is ever done to save it or fix it up thus it then ends up becoming an eyesore. I have fond memories of the Maritime Center such as the Know Your Ship book signing events to also seeing and meeting Dennis Hale and getting signed copies of his book to also attending one of the Authorama events and meeting many at that event along with many others there as well. The volunteers and staff at the Maritime Center were always very helpful along with friendly and would try to answer any questions from anyone.
