Terra , Luna and Solis ; somebody at Algoma found an old Latin dictionnary . Earth , Moon and Sun .

Solis, I would guess, is for the sun. They've added terra (for earth) and luna(for moon) recently.

Just curious is all and please excuse and forgive me if this sounds stupid as I wondered where does the Algosolis get its name from? Obviously the prefix Algo of course for their owners Algoma Central Corporation but where does the Solis part come from and come in at then? Any information is appreciated. Thanks so very much in advance for any type of information that you may have and can provide to me here.

Yes, new to Algoma vessel. Algoma announced back in January 2024 that it was purchasing two 2009-built product tankers from Norway’s Knutson OAS Shipping. They were the Eli Knutson and Liv Knutson. Both were chartered back to their former owner for the first part of 2024 and I assume they kept their names. Since then, the Eli Knutson was renamed Algosolis and registered in Canada in late July 2024. It first came to the Lakes in August.

The Liv Knutson became the Fure Spear flagged in the Faroe Islands. It is operating in Europe under a joint venture between Algoma and Furetank. Furetank does the vessel management.

I see on Marine Traffic that a tanker named "Algosolis" is downbound in the Welland Canal late Saturday night. Is this a new boat for Algoma?
