I was told by a logistics mgr at Toyota, that it's cheaper to ship a container from Long Beach CA to Hong Kong then to Hawaii, than it is to ship directly from Long Beach to HI. The latter requires Jones compliance, the former does not.

The Jones Act will probably go by the way side within the next decade. There's a movement amongst state governments, businesses, and congress to change it. Some see the negatives outweighing the positives.

Hawaii Rum company filing suit, seems pretty baseless, but we should never give them an inch.
