The Welland will close on Dec. 30 weather and ice permitting. There is little ice accumulation along the seaway at this time and it looks like an easy exit for ships this year. Water temperature at the St. Lambert lock was well above the freezing point and the ten year average. Long range forecast is good right up until the new year. Removal of aids to navigation is taking place.

I believe that the Seaway is scheduled to close on December 29 at 2359 and that is when all salties at least must be clear by that time. Not sure when the Welland Canal shuts down probably within a day or two after the Seaway shuts down. The information about the Seaway's closing can be found on the Seaway's website.

The Seaway is scheduled to close 12/24, however I see several salties that wont make it. With the unusual weather, how long will the Seaway remain open? Today is 12/22 and lawns here in upstate NY are still green!
