Yeah, I was wondering whether the winds were high or what. And if they saw it coming, the Skinner Uniflows are easily reversed. So what went wrong? Someone MUST have footage or photographs of both the incident and of her sailing without a sea gate. I'm guessing conditions on the lake today are conducive to her safely making a round trip. As far as the openings on the car deck are concerned, I think those have been watertight for a number of generations of rail carferries.

Seeing as how the Badger sailed as scheduled on 9-18, (the day following the incident) It does not appear that the vessel suffered any significant hull damage, although I'm surprised that it is permitted to sail without a sea gate. I believe the lack of a sea gate (as designed) is widely considered as being the possible cause of the Marquette & Bessemer No. 2 in Lake Erie in 1909. Does this imply that the Badger's car deck is outfitted with watertight openings to prevent flooding and thus is licensed to operate without a sea gate?

What happened? There doesn't seem to be any mention of this on the internet, on the Badger's official social media pages, etc.

With the sea gate being bent up from hitting the Spartan, is there still a sea gate on the Spartan that could be used, and besides that gate being bent, how much of the supporting structure might be bent also? And how long where they scheduled to run yet this season?
