When did the fire occur at Torco Dock? I wonder then how long the Torco Dock will be shutdown for then? Was the fire a result of the conveyor type system used underground where they unload the ore pellets at on the ground there or something else? Any information on this is greatly appreciated. The conveyor belt to the loader caught fire yesterday afternoon. Took several departments to get it under control. unsure at this time of the damage.

Won't be going to Toledo anytime soon with ore. They had a big fire at Torco

denny thank you for your response, it seems strange not to see the prt hauling coal and there hasn’t been any coal shipments out of the merc dock in superior yet this season. I know they are closing that dock in June, the stockpile of coal is very sparse right now. As far as the jrb initially they were scheduled to deliver Gary but then got diverted to deliver conneaut. I think it’s a first time that I recall ever seeing an interlake ship deliver to either one of those ports, maybe they are picking up the slack of the Speer being out of commission for now. Happy Easter to you as well my friend hope all is well with you.

Denny wrote: April 2, 2026, 12:57 pm Hi Bob, Yes you are correct as they did indeed deliver their first load of the season to Toledo and the Torco Dock! They are due next to Two Harbors now to load and I would assume from there that this load probably could go to Indiana Harbor? However, the JRB loaded at Two Harbors and made a very rare trip for them to Conneaut! So, it’s anyone’s guess right now as to where the PRT will deliver their next load to? I never would’ve thought I’d see the Barker go to Conneaut as I’m not sure if she’s ever delivered ore to Conneaut before or not? I’m sure she has at one point in her career but, it had to be a very long time ago then! Hope this helps answer your question on the PRT! Glad to see she’s on the cover of this years KYS book as she’s my all time favorite! Can’t wait to get my KYS books and see the PRT on the river this year, especially since I did not see her at all in 2025 due to health reasons! Happy Easter Bob. Stay well & healthy my friend,
Barker has indeed unloaded at Conneaut before.

So far anyway, DTE Monroe has not received any coal shipments by ships loading at the MERC Coal Terminal Dock in Superior nor has the DTE plants at St. Clair & Monroe received anything yet either. So, at this point it doesn’t seem likely that too many ships will be making deliveries at least to the DTE Plants at St. Clair. The DTE plant at Monroe will still receive coal from vessels loading in Sandusky and limestone from Stoneport for the scrubbers at DTE Monroe.
