Smokestack Markings

by Rob » August 11, 2010, 7:53 am

The steamer Calcite was launched in 1912 for the Calcite Transportation Co. of Detroit, Michigan. Since this company was eventually absorbed by the Bradley Transportation Co., I had always assumed that her smokestack was painted in the Bradley gray-and-black scheme. However, the photo below says otherwise. Assuming the mark in the middle of the diamond is a "C" for Calcite, does anyone know the true colors of this stack, the marking's history, or when it was painted over with the Bradley scheme? Thanks in advance!
