CTV News reported today that Bennington Group is accusing , without saying outright , Mammoet Salvage of stripping the wreck of all it`s valuable metals . Mammoet Salvage was first retained after the ship went ashore , to remove loose items like furniture , and contaminents .

Bennington went on to say that over $500,000 of copper wiring , brass portholes and deadlights , Captain`s table and dining room brass , galley stainless steel tables , and engine control wiring in the engine room was removed .

Bas Coppes , the company`s American division head , countered the allegations , saying that they were ` ridiculous ` .

And Bruce Nunn , a spokesman for Natural Resources , said his department oversaw the operation , and never saw any evidence of metal removal . He went on to say that the wreck had been unsecured for 7 months , before this summer .

Knowing the people , and the area , I can only leave that to the imagination , with their this is my lobster grounds and how dare you bring your wreck here . I`m sure some would have thought of pillaging the wreck , as a means of getting some kind of owed damage repayment . It was big news locally for a long time , and there were quite strong feelings .

I don`t care , the old girl is scrap there now , and anything metal coming off now is leftovers . But show some dignity guys , some of yous sailed on her , with me , so you know I know who you are , lads .

point edward right along side nothing at the dock and alot and lots of open fields and dock space to put it and easy to get to.

The Miner is on Scaterie Island, one of the more notorious graveyards of the East Coast. There will be no trucking until the material hits the dock, be that Mulgrave or Point Edward. I expect it will be cut up in pieces and barged away as others have suggested. Not alot of options available.

Should be interesting to find out what the salvage company's solution is for removal. I'm thinking two smaller cranes on two barges working their way to the center. Cutting it up into small pieces and barge it out.

Building a road would seem to be very expensive to carry trucks let alone if it is through a protected area. It would seem that the type of soil is the biggie when it comes to road building along with gravel or crushed stone availability and price.

Press reports have always indicated that the wreck would be cut into large pieces and all material would be barged to Mulgrave. It would then be cut up into smaller pieces. Mulgrave has lots of wharf space, easy road connections and is not far from rail connections.

That would not be possible. There is no "truckable" road access to the area where the Miner lies, and it is a protected wilderness area, so nothing could be trucked in or out. Removal almost certainly will have to be done by water.

Probably bring in a large crane in pieces, assemble it in place, and cut the [b]Miner[/b] up into large pieces. Those pieces could then be placed somewhere shoreside and cut up into small pieces suitable for trucking them out. The engine room equipment could be lifted out and trucked away as is on flatbeds, but the engines would probably have to be disassembled onsite, first. I wonder if they'll burn out all flammables aboard the [b]Miner[/b], first?

The salvage company expects to have the Miner removed by the middle of next month how will they do it?

suppose to be soon, any local boats involved has to meet transport canada specs I think

Anything going on regarding the removal of the Canadian Miner? Seems action would be under way.
