Throw in the name "Michigan" as the current tug Michigan I think is the tenth vessel to bear that name already. At least that is what it says in the Know Your Ships book I think?

Another common name back in the day was Smith for Great Lakes Transit. Can't recall any particular ones, but I know there were more than a few. Mike

There were 16 boats that carried the name Reiss, but in all fairness, I believe the original question asked how many boats carried the same name and that title would go to Superior with 15. (That does not include names like Superior City, etc. or a name followed by a number, like the Pere Marquette fleet).

I did not know that, and CSL's current Frontenac is [5], so I guess that makes six in total?

There were four Cadillacs for the Cleveland Cliffs fleet.

You could also include the number of boats that carried the Pere Marquette name followed by a number; 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 (twice), 19, 20, 21, 22, and 41 (20 boats!)

The Ann Arbor fleet also had boats numbered 1-7.

Today, there is the Desgagne fleet with 15 vessels. If you go back a few years, there were the "Brown" boats --- Harvey H. Brown (i), Harvey H. Brown (ii), Fayette Brown, J. J. H. Brown, W. W. Brown, William I. Brown, Frank H. Brown (CDN), and if you stretch it a little bit, the Brown Beaver (CDN).

In the 50s & 60s, the most common last name of vessels was Ford as in the Ford Fleet, the Emory L., J. B, & the E. M. Is there any most common last name among the boats today? Mike

There were 4 different Henry Steinbrenner's I believe and 4 Thomas Wilson's though one was actually Capt. Thomas Wilson. There have been 6 different boats that have carried the name John J. Boland also.

Samuel Mather comes to mind. 7 vessels carried that name.

What name has been on the most boats? I know that 5 different boats have had the name Adam E Cornelius, has any other name been used more?
