Any information about James Bradley of Buffalo, NY who was a sailor and Captain of the schooner Robert Emmett, at least that one ship for a time, on the Great Lakes from about 1855-1875 or 80. He was my husband's great great grandfather. He was born in Prescottt, Augusta, Grenville County,Ontario, Canada and was married in 1856 in Buffalo where he lived with his family. The last mention of him in Buffalo was in 1872 in the Buffalo City Directory. The descendants of his siblings in Prescott, Ontario have always thought he was "drowned off Erie". There was a mention of him having a serious fight and argument with his mate Reed near Erie when they were docked there in 1871, I think.
I can find no information about a drowning off of Erie and am writing to you to ask if there are newspaper articles related to this drowning? Is there a fee involved for your search? If so, I would be happy to pay for the time involved to look at old newspapers. I would guess that the time would be 1872-1880?
We would like to know when he died and where and what happened to his body if it was recovered or "buried at sea".
Any information you have readily accessible would be appreciated.
Thank you,
