Do a site search and you'll find pictures in the news photo gallery of both from March of last year. The South Shore at Navy Pier and the West Shore in Saginaw.

Blob,

The West Shore was built two years after the South Shore (1947, 1945 respectively). South Shore has an open gangway with a removable walkway which allows passengers to sit on the bow. West Shore was built as a more conventional design, also much wider and with a taller car deck area.

South Shore was sold to the Beaver Island Boat Company in 1973 and ran until Fall of 1997. In 1999, Shoreline Cruises purchased her and she now sits in Odgen Slip of Navy Pier. She has not run since, but is used as storage and office space. The car deck was mostly enclosed as was the upper deck. They keep her in good shape.

The West Shore never went to Bayfield. She was sold by Miller to Bud Martin of Beaver Island sometime in 97 or 98, so for a brief time, she was reunited with the South Shore. Martin had planned to use her for hauling gas and timber between Beaver Island, Manistique and other places. It did not work out and sometime in 2003-4 she was sold to Bay City Boat Lines, who had purchased the sister ship to her, the Wm. M. Miller (now Princess Wenonah). Conversion work had begun to put her on the excursion run, but she has yet to be used.

I have many pictures of both if you are interested.

MS. West Shore & MS. South Shore

I am curious about these vessels, and interested in their present condition. They were both built around 1945. Both are nearly the same dimensions (West Shore - 60' x 30', South Shore - 60' x 24'), both served for the Miller Boat Service, both served the same Lake Erie ports. The South Shore then moved to Beaver Island, and then to Navy Pier in Chicago. Last I heard, the West Shore was in Bayfield, WI. Where are they now, and what are the plans (if any) for them?
