This is a photo of one of the stacker/reclaimers at Burns Harbor. We (S.J. Cort) discharge the taconite into the dockside hopper, then through a system of belts, the ore is brought to and stacked by the stacker. When ore is needed in the plant, the wheel at the end "reclaims" it from the pile.

Reclaiming pellets means the dock crew is drawing pellets from a ground storage area and sending them to the ore dock to be loaded into the ship. Most ore docks have bins or pockets in the dock that store pellets to be loaded directly into a vessel. When those pockets are full, the pellets are sent by a conveyor belt to a very large machine called a stacker-reclaimer. The machine stacks the pellets on the ground for storage. When they are needed in the dock, the machine scoops them up or reclaims them and the pellets are sent by conveyor belt back to the dock.

The railways/ high docks as a rule pile the cargo up for storage, not dissimilar to what the boats do at the Steel Mills. At the docks though to get the cargo from the storage areas to the docks for loading on the vessel they use a reclaimer to shift the cargo. It's traditionally got a large wheel with buckets on it that rotate around (kind of like a water wheel) and the cargo runs up a boom at the "after end" and in to the system. Another place I've seen them used in the coal fields at the power plants.

It means the dock is reloading the pockets with ore.
