The Crapo has been laid up as a cement storage barge at the Lafarge facility at Green Bay, WI for a number of years. She last sailed under her own power in 1996. She left Green Bay for one trip to Alpena, MI under tow in 2005 to transport cement (when the Alpena was in for repairs due to a lost rudder). She has been in GB ever since.

In Muskegon you probably saw her sister Lafarge cement carrier, the Paul H. Townsend, which has been laid up ther since 2006.

Lafarge's main cement boat, the Alpena, has also laid up in Muskegon from time to time. Not sure whether it is there now?

Question about Crapo

by BellaBear » November 7, 2010, 11:19 pm

I am a lighthouse photographer and get to see all sorts of vessels on my journeys. I am havin an issue though. Today in Muskegon, I was over near the USS Silversides and driving around and came across a freighter docked not too far from the Lake Express Ferry. My question is, are the ST Crapo and SS Crapo the same ship? The ship we saw looks a lot like the EM Ford but not quite the same. Also we would like to know if the EM Ford has really been scrapped. We read the articles about the company wanting to scrap it but can't find anything about it they did. Thanks lots, Bill and Sadie
