Did they do more work to get her passed the last time then just the bare minimum to get her up to spec to pass?
As I wrote in a previous posting, yes, they put quite a bit of money into her. Plus, there really aren't that many boats that anyone is willing to sell them right now.

I remember when she was getting her 5-year over the winter of 1992-93 (while she was still the Calcite II), GLF's fleet engineer told me that it was probably her last 5-year then. Then there was all the uncertainty surrounding her as she sat out the 2004 season before they decided to put the money into her to get her through another 5-year. Word on the street was that the Calumet (the former Taylor) was the better boat, and it was a question of putting the money into Maumee to bring her up to where the Calumet was at the time, or scrap the Maumee and put the money into Calumet to secure a longer future for her. With all that in mind, it's pretty amazing she has lasted this long. Now Calumet is gone and Maumee is due for another 5-year, it's easy to be a pessimist, but then the best part of being a pessimist is being pleasantly surprised! It's definitely good to hear they're going through with it, it will be nice to see a real classic like her get a fresh coat of paint and stick around for a few more years.

I hope she passes, to me she is the last of the true old fashion 600 footers at 604 ft. I love her old Pilot House. Thanks!

That's the best news I've heard all day, but then, I happen to know that GRN put a Ton of money into her last time she was drydocked, so she should pass. She's not as rotten as people think.

Maumee will be going into drydock at Bay Shipbuilding for five-year inspection around mid-December.

She's already running on a one-year extension this year, so she'll be due this winter. Considering her age and all the salt she hauls, I'd be surprised to see her out again next season, but I suppose that depends whether anyone else will sell them another boat. With all of these other boats going for scrap lately, the rumor mill has been surprisingly quiet about her.

Can anyone tell me when the Maumee is up for her 5 year inspection? Saw her in Chicago today.
