I think the Moore’s age is getting the best of her, and the Invincible is readily available to take over, and has many more years of life left than the Moore. I heard that they are planning on scrapping the Olive L. Moore after this season.

It is my understanding that it would be too costly to bring the Moore up to Sub M standards that went into effect this year. Companies with multiple ATB units were given a grace period of sorts to bring all vessels up to compliance. I don't know why though. It wasn't a secret that the new regulations were being brought into effect this year.

Not related. But last Saturday, 3 Nov or last Sunday, saw the Moore downbound St Clair R.

The barge was loaded so that water-line was right at bottom of anchor pocket.

II looked like the bow of the Moore was pitched downward & the wheelhouse tower was definitely off vertical & also pitched forward. The stern of the Moore also looked high out of the water. You could see quite a bit of the rudder,

Does the Moore always look like it is pitched bow-down, stern-high when pushing a fully-loaded barge? It just looked unusual.

I suppose then this may speed up the progress perhaps then of the tug Invincible taking over duties from the Olive L. Moore perhaps in the future? It certainly I would believe call for discussions I’m sure of the tug Invincible someday taking over for the Olive L. Moore. Just wonder then if it will be next season that the tug Invincible takes over or with the recent issues of the Olive L. Moore now, perhaps maybe sooner? Trying not to start any firestorms or negative thoughts here just trying to express myself and my points in a hopeful and positive way here!

About 2 years ago she lost one of her rudders in the Detroit River somewhere between the lake St. Clair and Grosse Isle. We searched for a week before we came up with target in Canadian waters. 3 months of permits and International shenanigans and a dive is conducted on the object. It was a rudder.... just 60 years older than the one on the Moore...

As of 4:00 PM 11-7-18 it looks like the downbound Kaye E. Barker and Algoma Enterprise have slowed down in the lower part of the river below Marine City. According to AIS, it looks like the Olive Moore and barge Menominee are stopped about 1/2 mile below lights 29 and 30 in Lake St. Clair just south of the southernmost tip of Seaway Island.

According to Sarnia Traffic the Olive L Moore lost steering and is impeding traffic in Lake St. Clair. Bummer.
