Perhaps some one living in alpena and/or the local marine museum might have a photo with a vessel at the mill prior to its closing in 2000?

I'm not sure when they stopped receiving coal via freighter, but I started visiting Alpena regularly for work in 1986 and never saw any large vessels past the 2nd Ave bridge.

The Fletcher Paper Mill/coal dock closed ca 2000. It was supplied via freighters coming up the Thunder Bay River. Does anyone know which vessels they were? That had to have been quite a sight coming through the 2nd Ave bridge.
