St. James is on Beaver Island. There was {is} a hotel in St. James that is now a private club. It's right on the main street facing the harbor.

Roen was born 20 October 1887 at Tysse, Norway, about twenty five miles due east of Bergen. After a several year stint as a fireman on the Straits ferry St. Ignace he built at tug at St. James used to tow rafts of cedar and pine to schooners offshore or from Pine River (Lake Charlevoix) to lumber mills at northern Wisconsin and lower Lake Michigan. He relocated to Charlevoix after World War I.

Was Capt. John roen from or born on Beaver Island? I once had a book about Capt. John Roen lent it to someone and never got it back.
