Re: Thunder Bay MCTS

When I was working on Lake Winnipeg this spring I talked with Thunder Bay. They have repeaters there that allow them to service Lake Winnipeg. The operator said there were plans to close the station and remote it from another MCTS, but there was no time-line then.

Many CCG radio stations have been remoted and closed over the last few years. Iqaluit, on Baffin Island, now covers the Arctic as Inuvik has been shuttered. Sarnia and Prescott now cover much of the Lakes as several stations have been replaced by remote transceivers over the years: Sault Ste Marie, Toronto, Wiarton, Cardinal. The same is true on both coasts.

MCTS for the Strait of Canso and Northumberland Strait in the maritimes are now done from Halifax.

This is all technologically driven.

Does the Canadian Coast Guard still have an MCTS offic in Thunder Bay? I had heard rumours that it was to close.
