This is a bit late but Captain Ward was a great man. I always loved hearing him on the scanner when he was sailing the alpena up the saginaw river. He always had a long salute and a wave for us no mater what time of day it was. 3long and 2short captain ward.

I worked on the Joseph L. Block when he was captain in 1995.

Its Been eight years tomrow when i got the call that one of the Greates Capt on the lakes had passed . I can still rember the day like it was yesterday what a great man who love to sail he showed me such kindness and warmth .Its sad that hes gone but his memory will live on in me i will never forget Capt Riley Ward and hope to see you again
