While technically not On the Great Lakes or St Lawrence, if anyplace deserves the title of The gateway to both, it would have to be Halifax.

The current Bing Maps imagery captured occupants in two large floating dry docks:

Does anyone know what the barriers across one end of each dock are for? Are they like the plastic silt barriers that have to be erected around terrestrial construction sites nowadays?
